Schoolwork And Puppies

We’re galloping to the end of the first week of school…
Yesterday we went to a shared learning day, where Sweet Bean sat round a table with others in his age group, assiduously working through English lessons, discussing issues where needed, and getting more done than he would at home.

It was a lovely day, where we both met new friends… lessons were taught, both planned and incidental. We got to see a tiny puppy fed via a tube, and started the day sitting round a large table, with devotions taken by one of the teenagers, and each person praying – even the little ones. Hopefully it will be the first of many shared days…
Did I mention puppies? Sweet little babies, sleeping in front of a fan to keep cool, and squeaking every so often, presumably while dreaming ๐Ÿ™‚ A cute soundtrack to the day…

Getting There…

On the home stretch to Christmas, and stuff to do before I can sit back and chill for a week… there’s been a lot of end of year deadlines to complete. Sweetest Bean has finished the school year, and done so well – I’m so proud of him! โค We went to the art gallery last Friday before the awards for school. This was Sweet Bean’s Lego creation (it ran well, too)

Here he is receiving his awards –

He’s off camping with friends at the moment, having a great time.

Miss him, but glad he’s having fun!

Hubby is working now (yayy!!), which is wonderful, although he’ll be working over Christmas. We have had blessings coming already. One of those is a prize I won, which just came in the mail today. It’s a sample pack of natural perfumes – this is how it came, and the goodies inside…

They are supposed to evoke certain qualities – I was both beautiful and intuitive today ๐Ÿ˜€

I am very tired right now, but quietly hopeful of getting it all sorted by Christmas.
Let the countdown begin!

Drawing In…

…the evening, at the moment. Also the event we went to today, near the Art Gallery. We went last year, where it was part of The Big Draw – not sure this was official, but the same concept.
We did some drawing – there were old-fashioned flip books for animation, so I did one of those. Sweet Bean was reluctant at first, but soon got into it. Biscuits (and a cup of coffee for me) certainly helped! It was good to give him the opportunity to try something different, and I can also add it to his school work for the year. Here’s his “Persian rug”, made with cut out paper “mosaic pieces” ๐Ÿ™‚ .

Despite the rain, we were glad we went. Looking forward to next year’s!

Breathe, And Be Still…

The holidays have started – for Sweet Bean, anyway. He finished up with a Sports day at his Community Homeschool day on Thursday. I think it’s the first sports day he’s ever been to – he won ribbons – excitement! ๐Ÿ™‚ After a shaky start to the term he ended up accomplishing more than he thought he could, as well as getting a good report.

As for me, I finally got to do a couple more of my clinic practice days (I was unable to get there last time). Not only did I pass both days (while enjoying them as well), I managed the travelling, even though I had to walk from the station to the college and carry all I needed for the day. That’s the first time in a long time I’ve managed long days away from homeย andย the strength needed to get there and back! I’ve taken it easy for the last two days…
There’s more work to be done, so I don’t get two weeks holiday. I’m feeling more confident, though.

Here’s a couple of songs I’ve been enjoying lately. Have a listen (and click through to YouTube to hear some more…)

Taking A Deep Breath

It’s the beginning of the second week of term 2, and it’s been a good day!
The first week back is always stressful (at least the first days…), but we tend to settle down when we start to understand what we’re doing for the term. It’s taken a bit longer this time.
Today started off badly, and could have gotten worse. I spent last week trying to finish a subject from my course, so spent less time with Littlest Bean and his work than he needed – a recipe for stress! Today, I decided that I could concentrate on his work, so we spent this morning snuggling, talking through the questions for the day (and some for the week), taking the stress out of the day. Usually he settles in to his work within the week and then works well with minimal supervision. This term’s been a bit different…
It was so lovely spending the time together today! Both my boys have been growing so fast, and we don’t spend so much one-on-one time. Today was like a breath of fresh air – a sweet time with my Sweet Bean โค

I’ve still had time to get some work done, but took some time to continue the “taking a breath” part of the day. Had a lovely soak in the bath this afternoon, with a scented candle and a good book. Here’s my book, warm socks and a snuggly dressing gown to keep warm ๐Ÿ™‚

Life is good, when we slow down enough to see it…

Nearly end of term! It’s been disjointed and almost as though it would never end well, but we’re nearly on holidays again (yay!). Sweet Bean had his work looked at today – he’s doing well… lots better than he thought he was!
We’ve had ructions these last few weeks… who thought it would be a good idea to combine an early teen boy and a not-far-off-50 Mum in the same household? Fireworks have been let off at fairly regular intervals lately, followed by a feeling of exhaustion. Consequently, I’ve just done the bare minimum of study this afternoon, and have been enjoying chilling out tonight. I’ll be catching up on “Angel” and then reading a bit this evening… ๐Ÿ™‚

We’ve needed a lot of grace, and love, around here lately.

Daily reminders! ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s a good life…
and a good family.
This evening is a good time to take a deep breath, turn the heat down for the weekend, and get ready to jump back into the fray…

Just to finish off – here’s today’s heart – fresh from the cupcake place.

Be Nice!

I’ve been planning a post for a few days, but my brain is not running at full capacity at the moment. I’ll share some giggles instead… ๐Ÿ™‚
Each morning we sit on the patio to have breakfast, and that often leads to discussions with the boys on various topics. This morning we went from Mr Bean, to physical comedy and the art of mime, and then somehow onto this sketch –

Be nice! ๐Ÿ˜€

Here’s the response, years later, of some real rappers…

Back to study…

Coming To A Standstill

The school year is pretty much over – we’re just making sure the work is finished this week. We decided on the spur of the moment yesterday to go and see “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them”. I thought it was beautiful – from a well-lit and imagined 20’s New York to various fantastic beasts. The story was sweet as well (apart from the destructive parts…) I’m glad we decided to go as a family.
A little while back we went to the Japanese Gardens near us for some quiet stillness, and I filmed a short clip on the iPod. It’s not spectacular – just a fairly ordinary bit of running water, maybe a dragonfly or two… but isn’t that the way we mostly relax? With traffic noise, in a backyard type setting, dreaming because we can…
It’s apparently going to be hot this week. Have a listen to some water, insects and crows – some of the sounds of summer.
Dream on! ๐Ÿ™‚

A Refreshing Interlude

Both today and yesterday! ๐Ÿ™‚
The year’s coming to an end, so it felt like a good time for something different. We went down to the Japanese Gardens in Queen’s Park to spend some time, individually, being still and quiet. It was lovely – running water, birds, lots of dragonflies… Not sure ย Littlest Bean understood the idea – he spent the time darting around, counting all the animals and insects he encountered. Even turtles!

I sat outside the teahouse, listening and watching.

There was a lone lotus flower on the other side of the lake.

We went to the library afterwards. It was a refreshing break in our morning…
In other news, ourย thistle has probably reached the stage where it should be chopped down.

It’s getting a bit wild.
The flowers are still beautiful, though.

I chopped some branches off the mugwort today, and found a little ladybird.

I put it in the grass so it could fly away when it was ready. ๐Ÿ™‚

So – what was my refreshment today? I didn’t know which to choose – a good old mystery, or a bit of nostalgic sci-fi. I decided to go for both – Blakes 7 – Mission To Destiny… Agatha Christie in Space!

The Language Of Coffee And Marshmallows

The end of another school week…
This is what Littlest Bean was doing yesterday –

He’s started going to a Homeschool gathering with four classes in the day – this was survival skills. Apparently marshmallows are necessary for survival ๐Ÿ˜‰ They learned to build a fire yesterday…
He’s making new friends… and getting to try new things, such as drama. I get to enjoy seeing him enjoy himself!
I sit outside studying, and the coffee van comes in the morning. Got a hot chocolate yesterday – the cup was encouraging me. ๐Ÿ™‚
